Where Winds Meet's first global anniversary arrives on November 13 with Hutuo, a large new region that NetEase's publishing lead describes as the game's most climactic story arc so far. [1] The wuxia action RPG is free to play on PC through Steam, where it launched on November 14, 2025. [2]

A frontier at war

Hutuo is a war-torn frontier of muddy, steel-filled battlefields. Its main story centres on the Battle of Zhongdu Bridge, where northern invaders break through the border. The player is asked to choose between obeying a failing throne and protecting civilians. Side stories follow a conflicted soldier, displaced survivors and people sheltering refugees. The post frames the arc around "Xia," or chivalry. [1]

That is a promising direction for a game whose appeal has always mixed martial-arts spectacle with a wandering, everyday life in its world. A region about protecting people, rather than just defeating them, gives the open world's smaller stories more to do. Whether the choice has consequences beyond a dialogue branch is something only the release can show.

Anniversary rewards and two board games

The anniversary update promises what the post calls "the most generous historic rewards since launch," though the full list has not been published. [1] Free-to-play players should wait for the details before planning around it.

More unusual are two new board-game-style modes, Horse Racing Chess and Jianghu Tactics. [1] Side activities have been part of the game's identity, and two tabletop-style modes are a nice signal that the team still sees its world as somewhere to spend downtime, not only to fight.

Dual Spears arrive later in November

A new martial art, Dual Spears, is not part of the November 13 update. It is scheduled for late November. The post says it was choreographed under the guidance of action director Yuen Woo-ping. It alternates between Light Spears for offence and Heavy Spears for breaking an opponent's stance, building a Spear Stance meter for combos. [1]

What PC players should know

The announcement came through the PlayStation Blog and focuses on the PS5 version, including PS5 Pro upscaling, ray-traced reflections and a 60 fps target. It does not spell out PC-specific details. [1] Hutuo is described as part of the game's global anniversary update, so PC players should expect it, but it is worth watching the official channels for platform notes.

The development team will host a First Anniversary Special Broadcast on November 2 with more Hutuo gameplay. [1] That is the moment to look for the reward list, the exact timing and anything PC-specific.

Our take

After a year, Where Winds Meet says it has passed 100 million players. [1] An anniversary could easily have been a reward calendar and a new outfit. Hutuo looks like a more ambitious use of the moment: a story arc built around a moral choice and a war that touches ordinary people. We will be looking for whether the battlefield setting changes how the open world plays, not just how it looks.
