World of Warcraft: Forever goes live worldwide on Wednesday, November 4, at 3 p.m. Pacific, which is 6 p.m. Eastern. [2][3] Blizzard pitches it as a long-term, level-60 version of Azeroth that runs alongside modern WoW and the existing Classic realms. It is set after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. [1][3]
We have already looked at the class changes and the social promise behind the launch. This piece is the practical part: what you need, what to decide on day one, and what arrives after the opening week.
What you need to play
There is no separate box to buy. Access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. [2]
Blizzard also sells three optional upgrades. The Skyborne Heroic Pack lists the new Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle starting experience, Early Name Reservation, a ground mount, cosmetics and one Invite-A-Friend Launch Code. The Skyborne Epic Pack adds beta access, which is now over, 30 days of Game Time from November 4, more cosmetics and two more launch codes. The Warcraft Forever Collection adds Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, and Blizzard says it is available through January 11, 2027. [2] Check the Battle.net shop for current Canadian and US prices before you buy.
Name reservation ends November 3
If you own one of the upgrades, Early Name Reservation runs from October 27 to November 3. You can reserve names for up to three characters per account, first come, first served, and Blizzard warns that a name is not guaranteed. [2] Characters use a two-part name that only has to be unique within your region. [1] That should ease the usual launch-night scramble, but the reservation window still closes the day before launch.
Bringing a friend for launch week
Each upgrade includes at least one Invite-A-Friend Launch Code. An invited friend can play from November 4 to November 11 without a subscription or Game Time. The codes do not include beta access, and Blizzard notes that gift purchases are excluded. [2] It is a sensible way to test whether a friend will actually stick with it before anyone commits to a subscription.
Day-one choices: preset, ruleset and model
The first login asks for an experience preset. Classic offers simpler visuals and less automatic guidance; Enhanced adds higher fidelity and more interface features. You can change it later in the options menu. Each character can also use HD or SD models, which affects appearance only. [1]
The bigger choice is your ruleset. Forever uses broad rulesets instead of traditional realms: Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP. Hardcore is coming "sometime after launch," not on November 4. [1] Because a ruleset is a wide player ecosystem rather than a small server, it is effectively where your community lives. Agree on one with your friends or guild before launch, not after the first ten levels.
What is in the game at launch
The level cap is 60. Blizzard lists new or reimagined zones including Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle, the Skyborne starting area for levels 1 to 12. It also promises more than 1,000 new quests, nine new five-player dungeons and a 15-versus-15 battleground, Battle for the Darkspear Islands. [1]
Horde Skyborne can become Shaman and Alliance Skyborne can become Mage. Older races also get new combinations: Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter, Gnome Priest and Dwarf Shaman. An account-wide Legacy system offers horizontal rewards, and cooking campfires can become shared campsites with player-crafted features. [1]
The first raids arrive December 9
Level-60 players can enter three raids on December 9: Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair. Onyxia's Lair has its own entry requirements. [1] Blizzard's later plans include more raids, dungeons, PvP updates, Hardcore and a revamped iconic raid, but it has not given dates. It also says Forever will have no flying mounts and no level scaling. [3]
That leaves roughly five weeks in which Forever is mostly about leveling. For a version of WoW that promises leveling matters as much as the endgame, those weeks are the real launch. There is no need to race them.
Playable demo: World of Warcraft: Forever has no demo. Invited friends of upgrade owners can play during launch week with an Invite-A-Friend Launch Code; otherwise, access requires a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time.
