A mountain worth learning

Cranked brings downhill mountain biking to Steam Next Fest with a free demo from Session Syndicate. The five-person indie team describes a game built around racing, freeriding and exploration, with a particular interest in how it feels to guide a bike through a trail rather than simply point it towards the finish.

Style comes from control

Its free-whip handling system puts bike movement under the player's control, while trails, shortcuts and leaderboards give that control somewhere to go. Instant restarts support the familiar urge to try one corner again. Exploration and competition can share the same terrain: a relaxed ride can become a search for a faster route.

For players who enjoy earning a clean run

The attraction is mastery at a manageable scale. A good downhill game can turn a small improvement in braking, balance or line choice into an immediately visible result. Cranked is a promising demo pick for riders and racing fans who like learning a course until the awkward sections begin to flow.
