A front line you can push
Everfront is a strategy roguelike from solo developer Wilhelm Tranheden, with a playable Steam Next Fest demo. Its central idea replaces individually controlled armies with territory that expands and fights in real time. Clicking tiles activates or halts expansion, making the shape of the front the main thing the player commands.
Concentration has a cost
Strength is spread along the active front, so pushing in several places can weaken each advance. Terrain affects expansion, and doctrines and upgrades change the available tactics. That gives a simple input a useful strategic question: is this the place to concentrate pressure, or is the wider position asking you to wait?
For strategy players who like a clean central idea
The attraction is being able to read a military problem through the map itself. A narrow opening, a difficult stretch of terrain or an overextended border can become the important piece of the puzzle. Everfront's demo is an interesting prospect for players who enjoy territorial strategy and adapting a plan between roguelike runs.
